Traveling 101: Essential Things to Bring During Your Travel
Packing your travel essentials can be stressful and confusing especially if you're just starting out traveling. It could also spoil the fun of your dream vacation or quick getaway if you overpacked unnecessary stuff and failed to bring the important ones. That is why I created this list which you can use as a reminder of what to carry during your travel.
As a light traveler, I only pack items that I consider relevant to the type of activity, vacation, and location I would visit. However, I learned that whatever kind of travel I indulge in, these items are universally important to bring. Thus, whether you're up for a relaxing sunbathing on the beach, a thrilling hike to the Treasure Mountains of Tanay, or an extreme island tour to El Nido Palawan, this list will guide you on what to pack for a maximum fun travel experience.
A disclaimer that I did not include items that are obviously needed for travel like clothes, electronic devices, and extra money. As for your Outfit-of-the-day (OOTD), I urge trying to mix and match instead.
So, let's get down to the list
1. Sleepwear
This saved a lot of space from my backpack when I discovered I could reuse my sleepwear during travel. You definitely don't need to bring a pair each night (unless you're doing sweaty activities while asleep) because, in normal circumstances, you only use it while sleeping.
2. A Pair of Sunglasses
Whether you're going to a tropical country or not, it's a must to bring sunglasses. It will give your eyes extra sun protection and is a great accessory to your outfit. You just need to look for one that matches your style and personality.

This should be every traveler's holy grail. Getting sunburned is not fun at all. So better grab your best sunscreen product and stash it in your backpack. I have included links here for my recommended sunscreen that I personally use to protect my skin during my travels.
4. Insect or Mosquito repellant
Since the Philippines is a Tropical country, encountering places with lots of insects and mosquitoes is inevitable. I experienced it in Bohol and Boracay where mosquitoes ruined a relaxing star-gazing moment and a drinking session because we kept swatting it. I recommend bringing a small tube in your bag for a worry-free happy hour sesh.
5. A Tote Bag
Believe it or not, a tote bag will be your daily companion in your travel. You must have a small accessory bag where you put all your important stuff like a key, wallet, phone, etc. every time you leave your hotel room unless you can hold them all with just two hands, which is a hassle.
6. A Picnic Blanket
If you want to maximize your travel like drinking on the beach, star-gazing at a camp, or just sitting at a lake for a marvelous sunset view, spare a space for a picnic blanket. It does not need to be huge. Just look for a decent size that you can sit or lie on and you're good to go.
7. A Sweater
The climate in the Philippines and the rest of the world is everchanging. Thus, regardless of its dry season, it can still be cold during afternoons or evenings. That is why you must have a sweater to pull out from your bag when there is a sudden drop in temperature. Additionally, as a commuter, traveling hours inside a bus can be icy cold too.
8. Medicines
This is substantial for every traveler. It is important to be prepared for unforeseen health needs. In my personal experience, I get headaches during longer sun exposures, which is why I have a couple of Saridons whenever I travel. You can buy a small pill organizer and fill it with emergency meds like anti-allergy, loperamide, and analgesic. I included a link here for my recommended pill organizers.

9. Slippers
You're not going to wear shoes all the time, aren't you? Walking on a pair of slippers is relaxing and personally, I love to travel wearing one. It gives more comfort and mobility, especially during road trips. Plus, it does not occupy a lot of space in the bag.
10. Tissue/ Cleaning Wipes
Nature can call you anytime, anywhere. Having a piece to wipe your mess after the bathroom or wiping your hands off cookie crumbs can give you a sense of security whenever you're on a long road travel. Who wouldn't want clean hands, anyway?
That's basically it! My essential list. You can use this as a guide too. I can include more however, the purpose of this list is to have an organized, well-packed travel. Something unlikely to make you feel crammed, but enough to keep your travel fun, secure, and lightweight. I hope this helps. Bon Voyage!
